That said, if you have recently moved to these parts and are trying to figure out what wonders await you outside your apartment door, well, look no further. Here is a comprehensive synopsis of all the recreational fun and outdoor excitement in Keego Harbor. Focusing on this city’s abundance of outdoor spaces and parks, let’s go over the best public parks in Keego Harbor.
Public Parks in Keego Harbor
Best Nature Park
You might have noticed by now that Keego Harbor has no shortage of parks. As a result, choosing the best outdoor space definitely was not easy, but in terms of the best nature park, the winner is none other than the City of Keego Harbor Park. This amazing outdoor space has it all with its open green areas, lake views, nature trails, beaches, and more. Located just off the water on Willow Beach Street, this outdoor space is one of the best places to kick back and relax during the warm weather months.
Nevertheless, the two most likely runners-up in the city are Fran Leaf Park and Sunset Park, as they both have comparable scenery and an abundance of wildlife. Orchard Lake Nature Sanctuary is another nature park in the vicinity with native wildlife, trees, and plants. Of course, if you are not particularly fond of getting your feet wet just yet, then you should grab your bike and head out to any of the bike/cycling trails in Keego Harbor.
Best Pet Park
Keego Harbor has a handful of pet parks, many of which have doggy daycare facilities like Pup Culture. Thus, if you are looking for a more traditional pet park, then you should check out Karner Farm in West Bloomfield. This park is a historic farmstead, which makes it an ideal outing for the whole family. Here, you will find lush community gardens, wetlands, and a sizable dog park. This park is open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm most days and is open year-round.
Other notable pet parks in the area include Farmington Hills William Grace Dog Park, Orion Oaks Dog Park, and Lyon Oaks Dog Park. These are just a few dog or pet parks in the area worth taking your furry friend to.
Best Family Fun Park
Alternatively, if you want to take the kids or family out for a nice day at one of Keego Harbor’s many parks, then really the world is your oyster. However, if you would like a splash pad or a playground set to occupy some of your outdoor leisure time, then look no further than the Fran Leaf Park. Located on Brock Street, this outdoor gem has playground equipment, picnic areas, a swim site, walking trails, and more.
An equally great outdoor space to check out is Baxter-Morgan Park. Here, you will find comparable features like a playground area and picnic/barbeque, plus more.
Top Sports Fields and Parks
Baxter-Morgan Park is also our top pick for sports fields and outdoor recreational spaces. Many Keego Harbor residents come to Baxter-Morgan for its exceptional soccer fields. Better still, there are a couple of nearby parks with comparable soccer and sports fields including Pine Lake Soccer Fields in West Bloomfield, Founders Soccer Field in Farmington Hills, and Fox Hill Soccer Field in Bloomfield Hills.
Of course, if you are not a big soccer fan, that is perfectly fine. There are other sports fields/courts in the vicinity, including basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball/softball fields, etc. Moreover, as briefly mentioned before, there are several biking trails like those at Webb Park, Sunset Park, and Firefighters Park.
First-Rate Activities Centers
Besides all this outdoor fun, there are a couple of activities centers in Keego Harbor that are great rainy-day alternatives. For instance, the Sylvan Lake Community Center is a fantastic spot to check out if you are looking for a place to rent out for a birthday party or some other type of event.
Furthermore, just around the corner is the Recreation Activities Center in West Bloomfield. This particular facility offers indoor sports, a nature area, arts/design camp, and more. There are also other recreation facilities in neighboring cities like Waterford and Farmington Hills. You should check out Cass Lakeside Community Center in West Bloomfield if you are looking for a laidback workout spot as well.
Public Swim Sites
Keego Harbor has several public sites for you and your family to swim at, which you should partake in now that you have settled into your Keego Harbor apartment. Both sites are located on Cass Lake and are equally a good time. The first is the Willow Beach Street & Grove Street site, and the other is the Brock Street & Willow Beach site. These swimming areas are easily accessible and are a great way to beat the summer Michigan heat. Nevertheless, these sites do not offer anywhere to park or allow pets, so it is important that you keep that in mind. The nice thing here is Keego Harbor is not that big, so you can easily walk or bike to these spots.
In addition to the parks and recreation mentioned above, there are several other parks that should be on your must-see list. For instance, Rose Sortor Park is located right behind City Hall and has a fountain, picnic areas, a gazebo, a cinder trail, and a pond.
Similarly, Tate-Optimist Park has a designated picnic area, playground equipment, and convenient access to West Bloomfield Trail, and it spans almost 7 miles from Haggerty Road to Walnut Lake. Lastly, Sylvan Manor Park is a wonderful outdoor space for kids. Here, you will find a small basketball court, open green spaces, picnic tables, and playground equipment.
Veteran’s Memorial Park
This particular commemorative park is more of a memorial than an actual outdoor space, but, the Veteran’s Memorial Park should make it to your must-see list as well. Also known as “The Rock,” this memorial site is an important piece of Keego Harbor. Besides this park, Keego Harbor has several museums or historic sites that commemorate the past. Therefore, if you and your family are into all things history, then make a day of it and check out all the historic spots around town.
